Nutrition During Burnout Recovery

At a glance
Regular, adequate food and fluids support everyday health during recovery, but there is no established special diet that diagnoses or cures burnout. Eating difficulties may be a practical consequence of workload, low energy or another health problem.
Make eating feasible before making it ideal
Ask whether you have time, appetite, money and access to food. A simple meal that is available can be more useful than an elaborate plan that cannot be maintained. Consider convenient options, shared meal preparation or practical help from someone you trust.
At work, reliable meal breaks and access to drinking water are concrete changes an employer can discuss.
Be cautious with commercial promises
A supplement package, detox or restrictive diet should not be assumed to correct burnout. Supplements can have risks and interactions; discuss a proposed product with a qualified clinician or pharmacist, especially if you take medicines or have a health condition.
There is no need to add a demanding nutritional optimisation project to an already overloaded recovery plan.
Seek assessment for significant changes
Persistent loss of appetite, unintentional weight change, vomiting or difficulty eating deserves medical advice. Digestive symptoms may require their own investigation. If food restriction, bingeing or distress around eating is part of the problem, seek appropriate specialist support. A registered dietitian can help when an individual nutrition plan is needed.

Boundaries After Burnout
A useful boundary states what you can do, when you are available and what happens when demand exceeds that limit. Boundaries work best when the people who control workload agree to the practical arrangements behind them.
RecoveryBurnout Journal and Tracking
A burnout journal can help you notice patterns and prepare for a useful conversation. It is a reflection tool, not a diagnostic test, and it should be brief enough that recording does not become another demand.
RecoveryBurnout Recovery: A Practical Plan
Burnout recovery is a process of restoring health and workable capacity while changing the demands that keep overwhelming it. A useful plan combines assessment, recovery time and practical work changes rather than relying on one technique.
