At a glance
An intensive programme offers more frequent or structured support than ordinary periodic appointments. “Intensive” is not a standard guarantee of quality, and services may differ in clinical staffing, hours, setting and admission criteria.
Ask what intensity means in practice
Request a typical schedule and distinguish individual clinical sessions, groups, education, rest and optional activities. Clarify whether the programme is a day service, residential service or hospital-level treatment. Ask who is available outside scheduled sessions.
The appropriate intensity depends on the person's needs, not simply on how exhausted they feel or how much time they can afford to take away.
Check assessment and escalation
A service should explain which problems it can manage and which require a different setting. Ask what happens if depression, substance withdrawal or medical concerns emerge after admission. An attractive programme should not delay urgent care.
Plan the step down
More support during a programme needs a workable transition afterwards. Identify local clinicians, follow-up appointments and changes to work before the schedule ends. Outpatient care and residential care describe related options. Use programme-selection questions to compare services in writing, including total cost and the plan if the original level of care proves unsuitable.

Treatment & SupportCBT for Burnout
Cognitive behavioural therapy, or CBT, examines relationships between thoughts, feelings and actions. It may be useful for an assessed problem such as anxiety or depression, but its use in a burnout plan should be linked to clear individual goals.
